Brookside Gardens is Montgomery Parks’ award-winning, 50-acre premier horticultural display garden located in Wheaton, MD. Brookside Gardens offers formal and landscaped gardens, conservatories filled with changing seasonal displays, educational programs for children and adults and is open daily from sunrise to sunset. Included in the gardens are several distinct areas: Aquatic Garden, Azalea Garden, Butterfly Garden, Children’s Garden, Rose Garden, Japanese Style Garden, Trial Garden, Rain Garden and the Woodland Walk. The Formal Gardens areas include a Perennial Garden, Yew Garden, the Maple Terrace, and Fragrance Garden. Brookside Gardens also feature two conservatories for year-round enjoyment.
If you’ve visited Brookside Gardens recently, you may have noticed preparations for a large construction project. These are the long awaited Master Plan improvements which will create an innovative and attractive design for the main entrance and expand the functional aspects of the visitor’s experience- the parking lot.
We are all very excited to see these practical changes to the gardens, which will make your future visits more enjoyable and tranquil, but we hope the project will be more than a parking lot and with the support of generous donors, we will be able to add some very unique and attractive enhancements.
The Montgomery Parks Foundation is pleased to work with our colleagues at Brookside Gardens to add extra features such as a beautiful metal-sculptured Ginkgo Gazebo; an Aquatic Garden Overlook; a South Terrace to serve as a relaxing, yet inspiring gathering place; a Gatehouse that simulates a greenhouse in appearance; a lovely new pedestrian bridge; and a new entrance sign boldly announcing the garden while respecting the rural road character of the neighborhood, and much more!
These exquisite artistic features will not be possible without additional financial support from our wonderful community. Through dedications and gifts large and small, we look forward to renewing the Gardens for the enjoyment of each of our almost half a million annual visitors.
